This page presents a list over funding opportunities for students and researchers that would like to conduct research in Svalbard.

SSF Workshop funding
SSF allocates funding for workshops that further develop and realise SSF priorities or initiate new efforts to better coordinate research in Svalbard. SSF Workshops may receive a maximum of 200.000 NOK to defray the direct costs of arranging the workshop and up to 30.000 for reporting costs.

There will be calls for proposals in spring and autumn (2012-2015). The proposal deadlines are 15 February and 5 September each year.

SSF Support Funds
SSF allocates funding for projects that further develop and realise SSF priorities or activities based on SSF workshops. SSF Support Funds are limited to a maximum of 400.000 NOK/project.

There will be calls for proposals in spring and autumn (2012-2015). The proposal deadlines are 15 February and 5 September each year.

Arctic Field Grant (Arktisstipend)
Svalbard Science Forum allocates funding for fieldwork in Svalbard to Master students, PhD students and researchers from Norwegian and foreign institutions. The intention is to support students and researchers not established in Svalbard to carry out fieldwork in Svalbard and enhance international collaboration. The yearly call for proposals opens in September and proposal deadline is 28 November.

Svalbard's environmental protection fund
The fund is financed by the environment fee, fees for hunting and fishing cards, and penalties for violation of the Svalbard environmental law. Resources are used for projects and initiatives with the purpose of protecting the environment. Private and public businesses, organisations and private individuals can apply for support.

International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic - Transnational Access
The Transnational Access program for the International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic (INTERACT) offers access to 18 research stations in Northernmost Europe and Russia. It provides free access for outside researchers to research facilities and field sites. In Svalbard, the Sverdrup station in Ny-Ålesund is part of INTERACT

Strategimidler til arktisk forskning - University of Tromsø
The Amundsen Center at the University of Tromsø yearly allocates fundings for arctic research to Master- and PhD-students, as well as researchers at the University of Tromsø.

Polish-Norwegian Research Fund
The Fund provides grant assistance for research projects and workshops/seminars with preference given to larger projects in the areas environmental protection and healthcare.

The Research Council of Norway
The Research Council of Norway administers and distributes public funding for Norwegian research mainly through research programmes, but also via independent projects and basic funding to research institutions. Funding applications can only be send to specific programme announcements and calls for proposals.
